March 19th, 2010: Maricopa County Air Quality Department Free Brown Bag Series. Topic: How Air Quality Penalties are Calculated. Various factors are considered in determining an air quality enforcement penalty. The department has a policy in place which provides the framework to establish an appropriate penalty when a violation is identified. When evaluating a case, enforcement officers ask, ‘what is the level of the violation, the toxicity of the pollutant(s) and even the risk to the environment?’ During this Brown Bag session, Enforcement Division Manager Randy Ballard will explain the types of penalties and the penalty calculation components involved in the enforcement process as well as answer your questions.
